The
Holiday Chorus was designed by Bee
Creative Studios as a Christmas quilt, but can be used at any time of
the year. It is presented as a Block of the Month and will begin in
July. Since it only runs for four months, you will be finished before
you know it. The lovely birds make this quilt one of the best we have
seen. Two of the blocks are shown below.

Block of the Month. |

Florrie's Favorites, by Froncie Quinn, is
Froncie's second collection of reproduction prints. |
 |
This collection
of prints was inspired by fabrics found in the quilts of Florence Peto,
a New Jersey woman who was instrumental in acquiring and documenting
the Shelburne Museum's quilt collection in the 1950's. |
 |
 |
 |
| Florrie was a
well known quilt historian, author, and an accomplished quiltmaker.
She sewed with fabrics from her collection of 18th and 19th century
prints. These antique florals and a paisley stripe in reds, blues,
golds, and creams were derived from fabrics in her own quilts. |

Our first and foremost love
at Common Threads is reproduction quilts.
The Civil War era is our prime focus, but this is followed closely by
1930's and Turn of the Century reproduction. In addition to carrying
the fabric for making these quilts, we also carry a line of kits and
patterns. |
|
We have a line of our own
original patterns. The first pattern that we ever developed was
Pioneer Braid. This pattern became so dear to us that we made it our
signature quilt and included it in our logo. You can click here to see
our line of
Original Patterns and our
Kits. |

Daughters of Eve II is our block of the
month program that will begin in January, 2008. This BOM will last for
13 months. It is a sequel to our Daughters of Eve I block of the
month, in which over 250 quilters have participated. The program is
based on the book "Daughters of Eve" written by Virginia Stem Owens.
|
|
Each block is based on a woman
of the Bible - some well known and some not so well known. This began
as a class in our shop. All of the women discussed in the book were
not covered in DOE I, so DOE II was designed to cover these remaining
women. In the class, the woman will be discussed while the block is
taught. The discussions in DOE I brought forth insights, laughter,
occasional tears, and new friendships. Some participants even stopped
bringing their sewing machines, and just talked and listened. |
| The
program is designed to be used as a class, in group sessions, or
individually. The program will begin in January, 2008. Wholesale
inquires are welcomed. Please E mail us
(commonthreads@sbcglobal.net) or call (972-935-0510) for more
information. |

| The
York County Heritage Trust has over 100
splendid antique quilts in its collection. The Trust was featured in a
McCall's Quilting Vintage Quilts issue in 2005, which highlighted an
impressive plume stripe in one quilt. This became the focus of P & B
Textile's York reproduction collection. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
The collection
is based on fabrics dating from 1810-1830. All colors are authentic to
the period.

Morris Garden |
 |
 |
 |
This line
reproduces several of William Morris's own designs, echoing the subtle
colors he obtained from natural dyes. Quilters looking for textiles to
complement their Arts and Crafts decor will be thrilled by the
reproductions' accuracy. Those unfamiliar with his designs will gain
an appreciation of Morris's skills in translating nature to cloth.

Indigo & Gold
|
This vintage
reproduction fabric accurately reflects the textiles of a time period
when glazed fabrics, roller prints and pillar prints were popular.
Indigo prevailed as the preferred blue dye for a number of reasons: a
substantive dye which needed no mordant, and it was extremely fast to
washing and to light, making it a "reliable". The manufacture of
natural indigo lasted well into the early 1900's. |
 |
| At the same
time, colors became more dazzling. The dye process was long and
involved, and colors changed depending on the mordants which were
used. Home dyes used onionskin, nut shells and bark to create yellows,
browns, and greens. Ombre or gradient prints were particularly common,
many with lacy or leafy floral designs, and combined with a stripe of
some sort for a strong contrast. |
