    What’s New at Common Threads

We are excited to announce two special teachers coming to Common Threads in the next few months. Barbara Booth will be in the shop on Saturday April 1st teaching her great water color patterns. You will be able to choose between four of her patterns.  Barbara will guide you through choosing fabrics for water color quilts then how to put them all together to make a lovely wall hanging. Once you’ve mastered the technique, you will want to come back to her class called Flower Bath to make a beautiful wall hanging with a claw foot bathtub full of flowers. I’ve always loved this pattern. Both classes will be all day so you’ll have plenty of time to master the technique. It’s surprisingly easy.

We are also thrilled to announce that Alice Wilhoit will be coming to Common Threads in May.  Alice will be teaching her quilt Fireworks.  This is one of the most beautiful quilts you will ever see.  It looks very complicated—but I assure you that even a beginner can make it. You can choose to attend Alice’s class on Friday May 5th or Saturday May 6th.  To all you folks who loved making Texas Our Texas—now is your chance to learn from the designer herself. Space is limited to 14 each day so I encourage you to sign up early.

    Spring Clearance Sale:

We’ve been getting new fabric in almost every week—which means we’re running out of room. It’s time for us to clear out the old to make room for the new.  Our Spring Clearance Sale will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 27-29th.  Mark your calendars.  It’s a great time to get backing for your quilts—and to build up your stash.  We will have select bolts of fabric at 40% off as well as select patterns, books and notions 50% off.

    New Classes:

We’ve got several traditional classes scheduled for the next three months. These include a Dresden Plate, Log Cabin, Cathedral Window, and Feathered Star.  If you’ve ever wanted to learn these well loved patterns, now is the time.

    Toothbrush Rag Rugs:

Do you have a lot of ugly fabric lying around? How about making it into a rug?  Cindy will show you how.

Care and Feeding of Your Sewing Machine:

Lou DeMott will once again be teaching her class on taking care of your sewing machine.  Those who have taken this class tell us that it’s time well spent.  It will save you money in the long run if you know how to care for your sewing machine—which for most of us is more valuable than our oven.

    Carpenter’s Star:

If you’ve finished the Beginner’s Course and want to stretch your wings a little this class is for you. Phyllis will teach you how to make half square triangle blocks while you make this easy quilt.  It’s a great class for anyone.  It looks so hard, but is really so easy.

    Uncommon Quilters:

The Uncommon Quilters continue to meet every third Thursday of the month.  Some get there around 3:00PM while others join us after work.  We all bring projects to work on and visit while we sew.  It’s a great way to meet new quilting friends—and best of all, it’s free!  Join us from 3:00PM until 9:00PM on the third Thursday each month.

    Tee Shirt Quilt:

Many of you have requested a class on how to make a quilt from tee shirts.  We will be offering it on Saturday May 13th.

    Charlie Kissed Me:

It’s not too late to join us for this Block of the Month romantic mystery set in the late 1800’s.  We’re just getting started so it will be easy to catch up.

    Daughters of Eve:

Participants should please mark their calendars for May. We will need to meet on the second Saturday or second Monday rather than the third.  I will be at Spring Market in Minneapolis that week choosing lots of new fabrics and seeing all the new products!
