April 10, 2010
Well, it seems winter is truly over now, and we're plunging head first toward summer. Here in Texas the bluebonnets are blooming along with many other wildflowers and it's just beautiful to see. Spring is definitely one of my favorite seasons.
Block of the Month
Holidays at Home - This great block of the month uses convenient striped fabrics to create the illusion of half-square triangles without all the work. The other piecing in this quilt is simple enough for a beginner, but the result is a quilt that looks much more difficult. For more information about this block of the month program, click here.
Emporia Rose - This lovely quilt was designed by Barbara Brackman and Karen Menaugh. It measures 87" by 87". For our quilt, we are using cream colored tone on tone backgrounds, and red, green, pink and yellow--with a touch of blue. All our border leaves will be green. For more information about this block of the month program, click here.
Eagle Applique - This wonderful new block of the month program will run for six months. The quilt was designed by Lori Smith and measures 68" x 68". In order to assure that it is all from one dye lot, you will receive all the background fabric on the first month, so the price for the first month is higher than the price for the remaining five months. For more information on this block of the month program, click here.
Kits
Charity - This beautiful quilt was designed from an antique quilt and is part of the Charity Collection for a Cause by Moda. The idea for these fabrics came from an Ohio Star quilt from the Howard Marcus collection circa 1860-1870 from Pennsylvania. For more information on this kit, please click here.
Fabric

Sophia - You will love the mix of reds, black and cream in the new line from Windham. These fabrics are a beautiful and sophisticated addition to your reproduction stash. To see the entire line, click here.
Gettysburg Remembrance - This line from Blue Hill Fabrics is by Sara Morgan. Each color way includes the images of Lincoln, Grant and Lee, the major players connected to Gettysburg during the Civil War, along with other reproduction patriotic fabrics in red, blue and butternut brown. You can see the entire collection here.

Ravenwood - Jo Morton's new line from Andover calls to mind dark hallways in old-fashioned mansions. These blacks, off-whites and warm browns will look wonderful in your quilt. To see the entire line, click here.

A Perfect Garden - This Block of the Month was designed by Terry Thompson and inspired by 19th century applique quilts. You may choose the background we have used or a solid cream background. To see the entire quilt and sample blocks, please click here.
Pennsylvania Dutch Delight - This beautiful quilt was designed by Karen Ann Grabowski for Black Sheep Quilts. The patterns are all full sized to make it really easy to trace. You can see the full quilt and more blocks here.
American Patchwork and Quilting Pillowcase Challenge
American Patchwork and Quilting has issued the One Million Pillowcase Challenge and Common Threads Quilting is a sponsoring shop. We invite you to join us in the challenge. A pillowcase can provide comfort to a sick child, encouragement to a mother and her children in a shelter or a touch of color in the room of a nursing home resident. You get the idea! WE can make a difference.
Please join us on Wednesday, April 28th from 9am to 5pm as we gather to combine our skills for the benefit of local charities. Come for all or part of the day and bring your sewing machine and sewing kit.
A standard pillowcase requires 1 and 1/8 yds of fabric so 2 pieces of contrasting fabric will make 2 pillowcases. Check your stash, we bet you have lots of fabric just waiting to be turned into pillowcases. If you would like to pre-cut, the body of the pillow case is 27 inches x 41 inches and the cuff is 10 inches x 41 inches.
If you can, RSVP and we will be able to plan for you. We’re looking forward to seeing many smiling faces and we hope that yours is one of them.
All Aboard the Patchwork Express

Patchwork Express is filling quickly and we only have 8 seats left. The North Texas Patchwork Express is a two day trip full of fun and shopping with a group of other quilters to visit eight wonderful quilt shops. For more information about this fantastic weekend, click here!
Don't forget that Common Threads can now be followed on Facebook. If you'd like to get immediate notification of our new fabrics, patterns and kits, as well as notifications of sales that don't always make it into the newsletters, consider becoming a fan of the page. Pieceful Blessings,
