| Bonnie Blues by Paula Barns for Marcus Bros. - The Bonnie Blues line are all fabrics that were reproduced from actual quilts that Paula Barnes owns dating to the 19th Century. The Bonnie Blue Basics are full of rich colors and great patterns that will look wonderful in your blocks, especially the gorgeous indigos! Historically, a variety of plants have provided indigo for use in dying fabric. The dye was obtained from processing of the plant's leaves, which were soaked in water then fermented. The precipitate from the fermented leaves was mixed with a strong base, such as lye, pressed into cakes, dried and then powdered. The powder was then mixed with other substances to produce various shades of blue and purple. See the entire line here. |
